2012 Napa Valley Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon

“It takes Rutherford dust to grow great Cabernet,” noted famed winemaker André Tchelistcheff, and he certainly wasn’t wrong. With its near-perfect soil conditions and plentiful sunlight, Rutherford is a natural choice for Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. And 2012, which offered weather that was warm with no heat spikes, was an ideal year for growing—the grapes were slow-ripening with little rain.

Aged in medium-toasted French Oak barrels with slow, cool fermentation, this wine unfolds in a refined balance of flavors. It presents a lush garnet color that opens to strong notes of fruit above an earthy core. Full and well-rounded, each sip offers lively herbal notes and a smooth finish. With a complex tannic structure, soft mouthfeel, and elements of leather and spice, this elegant vintage pairs well with roasted vegetables, smoky meats, bold-flavored cheeses, and rich dark chocolate.
