2016 Sonoma Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

The Green Valley AVA, part of the famed Russian River Valley, is particularly equipped to grow cool-climate wines like Pinot Noirs. Sheltered from wind and largely facing east, the region is prone to be enveloped in dense, lasting fog that helps it maintain daytime highs ranging from the low 50s to only the mid-80s in the peak growing season. The elements and the terrain conspire each year to produce Pinot harvests with a certain elusive charm.

After a low yield in 2015, this vineyard came roaring back with huge production of thick, juicy fruit. You’ll find notes of black cherry, hints of oak, bursts of spice, a bit of tobacco and leather and just the right amount of acidity. Delicious on its own as a sipping wine, this Pinot Noir will highlight any duck breast dish or cheese platter.

This delicious Pinot has hits all the notes for me, big fruit on the front with a satisfying tobacco finish. It pairs well with gazpacho, and good bread. Enjoy.
